Anna Nicole Smith Abused Drugs While Pregnant

Authorities have reopened the investigation into Anna Nicole Smith’s death to see if her death should have been ruled a homicide rather than an accidental overdose, and possibly bring criminal charges against those responsible for her death, namely Howard K.Stern. Yesterday a psychiatrist who treated Anna Nicole testified that she was abusing drugs during her pregnancy. L.A. Times reports:

“Maullin recalled Smith’s weeklong stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in April 2006. Fifteen weeks pregnant, Smith was suffering symptoms of acute drug withdrawal following what she told doctors was an attempt to go “cold turkey” off methadone and Xanax, Maullin said.

“She said, ‘I’ll do anything for my baby,’ ” said Maullin, an addiction specialist. The hospital staff gave Smith methadone and the sedative Ativan to stem her symptoms and start the process of weaning her off the drugs, Maullin said. Several days into her weeklong stay, Smith angrily rejected a treatment program that included sessions with a psychologist and a complete cessation of sedatives and methadone.

“She was very hostile. It was, ‘Give me my medications and leave me alone,’ ” Maullin recalled. The psychiatrist said she told Smith and Stern that if she wouldn’t comply with the hospital’s outpatient program, she needed to check into a rehab center. Smith’s reply was a stony glare, and Stern questioned whether it was truly necessary, she testified.”

Frankly this is this least surprising news I’ve heard all year. The second least surprising was Michael Jackson being a drug addict. The most surprising? I’m still perfect. How can somebody be so perfect all the time??
